Working Capital Without the Wait: Lines of Credit, Term Loans, and Advances
Payroll is Friday, a supplier deal expires Monday, and your bank wants three years of financials and a month to decide. Business capital moves at different speeds — here's the honest map.
Business lines of credit
The cheapest flexible money. Revolving lines (bank and non-bank) let you draw and repay as cash flow swings. Strong files access lines into the mid-six figures, priced off your credit and revenue history. Best for: recurring gaps — inventory cycles, receivables timing, seasonal dips.
Term loans
A fixed amount, a fixed payment, a set term — online and alternative lenders can decide in days on bank statements and revenue, where banks take weeks. Best for: defined projects with a clear payback — equipment, a second location, a buyout.
Revenue-based advances (MCA)
An advance purchases your future receivables at a discount, repaid as a fixed daily or weekly amount. Approvals can land in minutes and funding in as little as 24–48 hours for qualified files — with thinner documentation requirements and more flexible credit standards than any loan. The cost is real: factor rates, not interest rates, and short terms. Used right — seizing a contract, bridging a receivable, rescuing a time-sensitive deal — it earns its keep. Used as permanent capital, it strangles cash flow. We also place consolidation and reverse-consolidation programs that combine stacked advances into one smaller payment.
Matching the tool to the job
- Under 30 days and high-return? An advance can make sense.
- Recurring and predictable? Build a line of credit.
- A project with a 12–36 month payback? Term loan.
- Already stacked? Consolidate before you add.
One conversation sorts it: we look at revenue, time in business, credit, and existing obligations, then line up the cheapest capital your file actually qualifies for — not the most expensive one you'll accept.
